Book your session
The ideal time for a maternity photoshoot is between 30 and 37 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, your baby bump is beautifully round, and you’re usually still comfortable enough to move and pose naturally. However, if you find yourself in your final week and decide you'd love to capture memories of this special time, we can still make it happen. I'll come to you for a cozy home session, where you can relax and feel comfortable in your own space while we capture those last, precious moments.
Discuss your vision
Communicate with me about your vision for the shoot. Share any specific ideas, themes, or poses you have in mind. You can send me the photos you saved on your Pinterest and we can discuss what is possible to achieve. I will always appreciate your input and work with you to bring your vision to life.
Pick the location
The location sets the tone for your photos, pick the place that resonates the most with your family.
Outdoor Settings*: Parks, beaches, or everybody's favorite; the desert.
Indoor Settings: Your home.
Special Locations**: Places that hold personal significance, like where you got married or your favorite hangout spot.
*Due to the heat during the summers in the UAE, outdoor photoshoots are limited to the cooler weather months, October to May, all photoshoots during the summer months will be conducted indoors.
**Please keep in mind that most locations in the UAE prohibit professional photography, so we will work together to find the best location for your shoot.
Plan your outfits
Choosing the right outfits is vital to ensure you look and feel your best. Here are some tips:
- Comfort First: Ensure your clothes are comfortable and fit well over your baby bump.
- Client Closet: I will share photos of the dresses I have in my client closet with you prior to the shoot, you can let me know which ones you like and I can bring them with me to the photoshoot, then you can choose if you would like to use them or not on the day.
- Style and Color: Solid colors and soft, flowing fabrics work well. Avoid big busy patterns that can distract from your belly. Simple jeans that you wore before you got pregnant, a simple bra and an oversized shirt can give such a cool and effortless look.
- Coordinating Family Outfits: If including your partner or children, choose complementary colors without being too matchy-matchy. Partners look best in a simple shirt or polo shirt and complimentary colored shorts or pants. I can help you decide how to create a cohesive look and what looks best on photos.
- Consider Accessories: Simple jewelry, sweaters, or hats can add a touch of personality without overpowering the main focus – your belly! Sunglasses are typically advised to be avoided during photoshoots.
- Footware: Some locations like the desert, beach or your home don't require you to wear any shoes, but in other locations you can wear what makes you feel you best, but keeping it simple and classic. You can always bring a comfortable pair of shoes with you to swap into if you get uncomfortable.
Bring props with you
Props can add a fun and personal touch to your photos. Consider items like:
Baby Shoes or Clothing: Tiny shoes or a tiny onesie can symbolize the baby’s upcoming arrival.
Ultrasound Photos: Holding an ultrasound photo is a classic and touching prop.
A special plushie: An old plushie from your childhood to be passed down to your little one, or a one they received from an eager grand parent can be touching symbols.
You can take photos of your little one with the plushie later on to track their development and how fast they are growing.
Flowers: These can add a splash of color and whimsy to your photos.
Gender reveal props: If you would like to incorporate the gender of your baby into the shoot, you can bring along some paint, balloons or smoke props.*
*Please avoid bringing props that would leave a mess behind, like confetti cannons.
Involve your partner, siblings and pets
Including your partner, other children and your fur babies can make the session more meaningful. We can capture interactions, such as your partner hugging your belly or siblings kissing the bump, to highlight the family’s anticipation and love. Consider bringing your dogs as well if the location allows pets as they can make the photoshoot 10x more meaningful and fun.
Stay flexible
While planning is essential, staying flexible during the session is just as important. Sometimes the best photos come from spontaneous moments.
If you or your partner are camera shy, just keep talking to each other and pretend I'm not there, the photos where you genuinely laugh at each others jokes and enjoy your partner or family's company are the most precious and beautiful.
Relax and have fun
Finally, remember to relax and have fun! This is a joyous time in your life, and your photos will reflect the happiness and love you feel. Enjoy the session, and cherish the memories you’re creating.
A maternity photoshoot is a beautiful way to celebrate your pregnancy and create lasting memories. With these preparation tips, you'll be well on your way to a successful and enjoyable session.
Embrace the moment and look forward to capturing the magic of this special time in your life.
